Meriam Professional
Seba Bourne is a Torres Strait Islander woman from Mer (Murray Island) of the Komet Tribe, the daughter of Genamai Bourne and Rosaline Bourne (née Day). Her upbringing was strongly influenced by her mother, who played a significant role in shaping her values and continues to inspire her work within the community.
She has lived most of her life in Mackay on Yuwi Country, where she maintains strong connections to community, culture, and family. Seba works as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner in the Child and Maternal Health team at the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service Mackay, with over 10 years of experience in the health sector.
In her role, she is dedicated to supporting children and families through health education, early health screening, and promoting strong foundations for lifelong wellbeing while working to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in culturally safe environments.
Alongside her work in health, Seba is also the co-founder of Ilun Roots, a small Indigenous business she established with her partner. Through Ilun Roots, they celebrate and share culture through storytelling, weaving, cultural learning, and community connection, with a strong focus on preserving knowledge and traditions for future generations.
She is also a proud mother of two children, a son and a daughter, who continue to inspire her commitment to culture, community, and creating strong pathways for young people to grow up confident in their identity and heritage.
