Kailang Cook

Meriam Professional

Kailang Cook is a proud Torres Strait Islander woman with ancestral ties to Badu, Moa, and Mer Islands. Born and raised in Mackay, on Yuwi Country in Central Queensland, Kailang honors her heritage through both her personal and professional endeavors.

Kailang is currently employed within Queensland Education as both a Community Education Counsellor and a Teacher Aide. She possesses prior experience in Tagai Collage at Badhulgaw Ngurpay Lag as an Administration Officer, and in the banking sector, supported by a Certificate III in Finance. Additionally, Kailang is also a certified Swimming Instructor, providing water safety instruction to children from infancy through to primary school age.

 

Committed to lifelong learning, Kailang is dedicated to embracing, demonstrating, and sharing her culture in all aspects of her daily life. Her passion for cultural exchange and education is evident in every undertaking.

Kailang has had the privilege of growing up immersed in the knowledge, traditions, and customs passed down by elders, whose wisdom stems from generations before them. This strong foundation continues to inspire her ongoing contributions to community and cultural preservation.
