Welcome to Maiso Meriam Mir, where we are dedicated to preserving, teaching, and celebrating the Language and Culture of Mer Island, in the Torres Strait, Australia. Rooted in the traditions of the Meriam people, we offer programs that ensure knowledge is passed from Elders to future generations, strengthening cultural identity while creating pathways for learning and community development.
Our Mission
At Maiso Meriam Mir, our mission is to safeguard heritage, foster pride, and keep the voices of Mer Island alive through education. We go beyond teaching — it is about ensuring the living legacy of the Torres Strait by providing opportunities for learners of all ages to reconnect with their roots, deepen cultural understanding, and contribute to the rich heritage of the Meriam people.
