Maiso Meriam Mir is an Adult and Community Education (ACE) provider dedicated to preserving, teaching, and celebrating the Language and Culture of Mer Island, in the Torres Strait, Australia. Rooted in the traditions of the Meriam people, we offer programs that ensure knowledge is passed from Elders to future generations, strengthening cultural identity while creating pathways for learning and community development. Our work goes beyond teaching — it is about safeguarding heritage, fostering pride, and keeping the voices of Mer Island alive through education. Through language, song, story, and practice, Maiso Meriam Mir provides opportunities for learners of all ages to reconnect with their roots, deepen cultural understanding, and contribute to the living legacy of the Torres Strait.
