Frank Cook

Meriam Professional

Frank Cook, born on Thursday Island and a proud member of the Piadram tribe from Mer Island, is an Indigenous Health Practitioner and former Royal Australian Navy sailor. He is dedicated to preserving Meriam Mir language and cultural traditions, ensuring their transmission to future generations.

Presently located in Mackay, Queensland, within YUWI Country. 

Frank is a qualified Indigenous Health Practitioner and a former Royal Australian Navy Maritime Logistics Supply Chain Sailor. He now works as a Service Technician Contractor in the mining sector, servicing coal, gold, and manganese preparation plants across the Bowen Basin in Central Queensland, Weipa in North Queensland, and Groote Island in the Northern Territory. 

Guided by the wisdom of his elders, Frank is deeply committed to preserving Meriam cultural practices and traditions, with a particular focus on the Meriam Mir language. He works to ensure that this vital cultural heritage is passed on to future generations, safeguarding the knowledge, stories, and identity of his people for years to come.
