As an Advisor to Maiso Meriam Mir Ltd, Loretta brings frontline conservation experience, community leadership, and a deep understanding of the connection between language, land, and sea to the Language Centre's work.

Currently working in the conservation industry in the Torres Strait, Loretta left a senior career in the mining and civil industries when she recognised that her true calling was to serve her community and Country. That decision reflects the same conviction at the heart of Maiso Meriam Mir: that cultural responsibility must take precedence, and that the people who know Country best must lead its protection.

Loretta is an active participant in the Queensland Indigenous Women's Ranger Network (QIWRN), where she has mentored young women rangers and championed female leadership in a traditionally male-dominated field. She facilitates cultural engagement activities for women and children that foster healing, belonging, and connection to land and sea — recognising that language revitalisation and Country stewardship are acts of women's leadership as much as they are acts of cultural sovereignty. Her experience within a Registered Training Organisation further strengthens the Language Centre's capacity to deliver accredited, transformative education on Country.

Loretta's vision — that Torres Strait Islander people become credentialled environmental practitioners and caretakers of their own land and sea — aligns directly with the Maiso Meriam Mir eco-linguistics framework, where Meriam Mir language transmission and Sea Country stewardship are understood as a single, inseparable mission.
